Overview

A close-range fighter who either charges with axe and shield or overwhelms with a warhammer. Official· XLGAMES / Steam

Steam news names Berserker as one of four playable classes and names the Berserker's Forceful Lunge in a pre-launch balance list. Axe with shield and Warhammer as the two weapons are from MMORPG.com's class intro. Steam names Warhammer in that same balance list without restating the class pairing.

What we know

  • Two launch weapons: Axe and Shield and Warhammer, each with its own trait tree.
  • Classes are gender-locked at Early Access launch.

  • Full skill list and trait tree nodes for both weapons.

Lore. MMORPG.com's class intro ties the Berserker to Shyagon, founder of the divine kingdom of gold and steel, Gon. Reported· MMORPG.com

The Berserker is a close-range fighter who either charges in with Axe and Shield or overwhelms enemies with a Warhammer. It is one of the four classes at Early Access.

Who should play the Berserker

Pick the Berserker if you want to be in melee range at all times. MMORPG.com’s class preview ties the class to Shyagon, founder of the divine kingdom of Gon, and describes two clear styles. Classes are gender locked at launch, and Steam news has not named the Berserker’s locked gender.

Axe and Shield or Warhammer: which to start with

According to MMORPG.com, choose the Axe if you want to charge into battle while keeping strong defense. Skills include Reckless Destroyer, Shield Slam, Brutal Crash and Reel In, which closes a gap with a chain. Choose the Warhammer if you want to overwhelm the other side with thunder and fire. Its skills are Surging Heat, Thundering Hurl, Meteor Hammer and Galactic Impact, but the article gives no effect text for them.

A sensible approach is to take the Axe and Shield if you want a sturdier start, and the Warhammer if you prefer a heavier, elemental style. XLGAMES officially named Forceful Lunge in its pre-launch tuning list without saying which weapon uses it, and tuned the Warhammer as well.

How the Berserker gets stronger

Every level gives stat points. The progression post lists six primary stats: Strength raises physical attack, Intelligence raises magic attack, Agility boosts crit chance and some physical attack, Constitution increases HP and crit resistance, Endurance increases stamina and defense, and Talent supports magic attack and reduces equipment penalties. One point always buys one stat, so there is no scaling math to do before you commit. For a melee class, a sensible approach is Strength for damage, with Constitution or Endurance for survivability.

Each weapon has its own trait tree, so Axe and Shield and Warhammer progress separately. Nodes can add stats, new skills, or changes to existing ones. Trait points come from Raeven’s Coilstones, each near a powerful boss, so they come from exploring, not leveling. See skills and traits.

What launch-week sources say (Nov 4)

These are reports from creators and guide sites, not our own testing, and most were written on the October demo. Each line links its source.

  • Axe and Shield: a creator weapon tier list (1:33) rates it S for PvE, A for PvP: the creator says the demo’s hardest boss took 3 hours with Hatchets and 10 minutes with the Axe. Nerd Bird (1:47) calls it a very forgiving setup for new players and tank mains, and RaidDex recommends the Berserker for beginners. It sits at S on our solo board.
  • Warhammer: the same tier list (2:06) puts it last for PvE (D), and Nerd Bird (3:48) says missed charged swings lock you into long recoveries, which makes it tricky solo and in boss fights. It sits at C on our solo board.
  • A dissenting view: GamerBlurb’s pre-release class list puts the Berserker at B for early solo progression.
  • Starter build: a block-and-counter Axe and Shield setup is on the Axe page, with its sources.

What we are still collecting

Early Access is live. We are adding the following from public sources as they appear, each with a link and a date:

  • Which weapon players favour for solo dungeons, with links to creator videos.
  • Which weapon uses Forceful Lunge, once XLGAMES or players say.
  • Effect text for the four Warhammer skills, from patch notes or player reports.

The Berserker weapon pairing comes partly from press class previews; each weapon carries its own tag.

Berserker FAQ

Is Berserker a class in ArcheAge Chronicles?

Yes. Steam news lists Berserker as one of the four playable classes, and a pre-launch balance note names the Berserker's Forceful Lunge. Class preview coverage pairs Berserker with an axe and shield or a warhammer.

Official· XLGAMES / Steam
Are ArcheAge Chronicles classes gender locked?

Yes, at Early Access launch. XLGAMES is adding gender choice one class at a time, starting with a female Warrior planned for the first update in December 2026. The stated goal is to remove gender locks from every class by full release.

Official· XLGAMES / Steam
What weapons does each class use?

Each class has two weapons at Early Access, with a third planned later. Official posts tie Warrior to longsword, greatsword, and a planned Gladius, and Ranger to hatchets. Class preview coverage pairs Ranger with longbow as well, Berserker with axe and shield or warhammer, and Mage with Elemental Staff or Wavesword.

Longbow, axe, and the Mage pairings are from class preview coverage, not from a Steam sentence that names those weapons as that class's kit.

Official· XLGAMES / Steam
What is the best class in ArcheAge Chronicles?

There is no settled best class yet. Early launch-week sources point to the Berserker with Axe and Shield as the most forgiving solo pick and the Ranger's Hatchets as the strongest PvP weapon, but most of them were written on the October demo. The tier list shows each placement with its sources.
