Yes, ArcheAge Chronicles has housing. Steam’s Early Access FAQ lists housing among the content available at launch, alongside exploration, dungeons, raids, PvP, crafting, trading, and company and guild activities. The details of how you get and place a home have not been published.
What XLGAMES has said
Here is everything we can attribute, from oldest to newest.
- October 2024, developer diary. XLGAMES said housing returns with extensive customization, and that you can meet housemates to share and personalize a living space.
- August 2025, Massively Overpowered interview. XLGAMES described a hybrid approach. It is not a single global space where everything is visible to everyone, and it is not private instanced homes either. Instead the game uses a channel-based system with shared, persistent housing zones, where multiple players can own homes, see each other’s properties and build community, without the land-rush issues of fully open-world housing.
- October 2026, press release. A Games Press writeup of an XLGAMES developer video lists housing among activities the team is developing, with life skills, crafting and trade.
- Steam store, November 2026. The Early Access FAQ lists housing as part of the current state of the game.
How shared housing zones should work
Based on the interview, a sensible way to picture it is a neighborhood that exists in several channels. Each channel is its own copy of the housing zone, so you can see other players’ homes without everyone on the server competing for one map. This ties in with how the rest of the world works, where zones are split into channels of about 100 players. See servers.

That is our reading, not an XLGAMES description of the live feature. The interview did not give a plot count, home sizes, prices or how you pick a channel.
Housemates and customization
The 2024 diary promises housemates who share a living space and extensive customization. XLGAMES has not published:

- How many housemates a home can have.
- What furniture or decor exists.
- Whether homes can be placed anywhere or only in set zones.
- Whether housing is tied to farming.
Steam lists farming as a separate life skill next to housing, hunting, gathering and crafting, so we do not know yet how they connect. See crafting and trade.
The demo did not include housing
The Steam Next Fest demo left out some life content, including housing and trade, according to XLGAMES’ demo announcement. That means the public had not seen housing in action before Early Access went live. Anything you read claiming exact housing numbers is a guess.
2014 ArcheAge comparisons
Older guides for the 2014 ArcheAge describe a different housing system. XLGAMES says the Chronicles approach is built to avoid the land-rush issues of fully open-world housing. Do not rely on 2014 guides for costs, upkeep or placement.
What to do now
- Do not spend time planning around exact home sizes. They are not published.
- A sensible approach is to focus first on exploring and leveling, which the progression systems reward, then look at housing once players or XLGAMES describe how to start.
- Watch the official Steam news for housing details.
